Life inside a moment
One of my most vivid childhood memories is of the photocopier in my grandparent’s study. Fascinated by this huge machine, I would watch the bright gleam that escaped through the cracks as the light inside glided over paper, hands and other things I’d put inside.
Inspired by these impressions, at the occasion of my grandmother’s 80th birthday, I portrayed both of my grandparents with a handheld flatbed scanner. The resulting images combine hyperrealistic sharpness with vagueness and distortion. They reflect the process of remembering and forgetting, which shapes both my own world and, especially, the world of my grandparents.
